Puzzle Club – Each season, our puzzle club works to put together a new jigsaw puzzle which then gets set, framed and featured at the senior center. The puzzle is open for everyone to participate during our center hours.
Indoor/Outdoor Gardening – Joan Roth leads our seniors in gardening tips and techniques every Monday from April – October as she and our seniors nurture our garden beds and boxes behind the senior center. The harvest is bountiful and all our seniors are welcome to take home everything we grow.
NEW! – Music Education – Dave Swengel is bringing ukulele classes to the center this spring. Ukuleles will be provided for this beginners’ class that meets weekly on Mondays. The center hosts holiday sing-a-longs and is planning other musical education and presentations in the future. *Sign up is required
Chair Yoga – Certified Yoga instructor Miranda Grisales-Buell brings her expertise as a certified Ayurvedic Health Provider and Coach, as she leads a 30-minute chair yoga class twice a month at the center.
Chair Tai Chi – Moon Willow certified Tai Chi instructor Stephanie Claussen leads our seniors in a 40-minute chair Tai Chi class with some supported standing movements every Wednesday at the senior center. This class focuses on the mind-body-spirit connection while stretching and strengthening.
Baile! – This 25-minute dance class, taught by Stephanie Claussen, pulls from salsa, merengue, bachata, cumbia and flamenco dance forms to offer a fun cardio workout for seniors. No previous dance experience is necessary.
Tech Wizards – Pastor Alex Lee joins us every month to provide instruction and answer any questions any of our seniors have on their smartphones and tablets. Bring in your device and work with Pastor Lee to sharpen your digital and online skills.
Movie Matinee – Once a month we select a film (or one of our seniors makes a choice) to share with the seniors at the center. Popcorn is provided, along with some discussion after the film.
Potluck/Special Events – Our seniors make excellent dishes-to-pass from around the world! Luckily there is a special event nearly every month to gather and share a meal.
Games – Whether it be a Wii tournament, Bilingual win-lose-or-draw, or a card game tournament, we like to get competitive – but in a friendly way. Our games rotate every few weeks and we welcome suggestions from our gamers!
Arts & Crafts – We offer Watercolor video tutorials, adult coloring book sessions, seasonal decor crafting, and B.Y.O.C. (Bring your own craft) days. *Sign up is required for some of these craft sessions.
Lunch Out – The last Wednesday of the month is our Lunch Out day. Our “usual” place is the Stanchion Pub, but we will also pop in to other local restaurants and places of amusement. We “go dutch” for these outings and sign up is required.
Educational Events – We bring in speakers on a regular basis to inform our seniors about topics that are important to them. These events vary and nearly all of these events are free for our seniors. *Sign up is required.
Cycling Without Age – Cycling Without Age “pilots” give rides in trishaws to seniors once every other week in Harvard and Hebron from May through October (weather permitting).
Unless otherwise indicated, all programs offered at HCSC are free. Registration may be done by calling the center at 815-943-2740 or by signing up in person during our normal center hours.
